Blotter: Velarde Man Claims there’s a Clone in his Ear

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

Drunk and diabetic

Aug. 14

4:45 a.m. A 30-year-old woman was reportedly overdosing on Calle del Rio. One dose of Narcan was administered and CPR was performed, but she died.

6:12 a.m. A Walmart employee wants to speak with an officer about a case of embezzlement.

9:25 a.m. A report was taken at the Española Police Department for a case of larceny.

9:47 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who left the Española Hospital with IV lines inserted.

10:29 a.m. An Española Valley HIgh School employee wants to speak with an officer because a student said he’s being abused at home.

10:33 a.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said someone stole his garbage can and he wants to file a report so he can get it replaced.

11:57 a.m. An Española Pathways Shelter caller wants to file a report for sexual harassment after she and a co-worker were harassed.

12:02 p.m. An Española Animal Shelter caller got a call from the State Regulations Department and was told that an employee posted a video of a decapitated dog that was being poked with a knife on social media. It was determined the dog had been sent to the state lab for testing via a shelter procedure.

1:24 p.m. A Walmart caller said someone broke into the garden center this morning.

3:04 p.m. A Private Drive 1002 in Alcalde caller reported a small drone begins flying over the neighbor’s house every time his young daughters are in the pool.

3:47 p.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller said he and a man were in an altercation and he got hit in the face and is having hearing issues.

4:36 p.m. A State Road 76 in Española caller reported being assaulted by a man who fled in a truck toward Chimayó.

7:59 p.m. An axle fell off a vehicle in the road near Center Market.

7:25 p.m. An Allsups caller wants a man removed from the property.

8:04 p.m. A Fat Burger caller said a man seems to be under the influence of something and was throwing up in the bathroom and is now being rowdy. They want him out of the store but the manager hasn’t been able to get him out.

9:21 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported hearing shots fired.

11:57 p.m. A caller in Hernandez said they are diabetic and have been drinking all day and don't feel well.

Neighborly shootout

Aug. 15

1:40 a.m. A Private Drive 1618C in Medanales caller reported her neighbors are shooting back and forth.

3:10 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a handful of teenage girls at the Fairview Elementary playground, who are giggling.

3:27 a.m. A Roosevelt Street caller reported a tree branch fell on a power line in his backyard.

5:08 a.m. A Monte de Luz Lane caller thinks his 29-year-old girlfriend is dead. He then said she was gasping for air and is choking. State Police said the woman was conscious but having a hard time breathing.

5:27 a.m. A Speedway caller requested a welfare check on a man screaming and curled in a ball by the ice machine.

5:45 a.m. An Española Post Officer caller said a person is lying inside the building and they don’t know if he’s sleeping.

7:43 a.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man is on the roof.

8:04 a.m. An Angel Duran Drive caller said a woman who stole his dad’s wallet and keys is back at their house.

8:27 a.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported her stolen truck was returned.

9:11 a.m. A woman went to the Española Police Department to file a report because someone at Walmart took out an unauthorized prescription.

10:26 a.m. A County Road 87 in Chimayó caller wants to speak with a detective because there is bestiality going on and everyone thinks he’s schizophrenic, but he values his freedom and needs officers to respond.

10:35 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller said there’s a car full of drug addicts parked in an empty lot and a man and woman are arguing.

11:04 a.m. A Dairy Queen caller reported a man tried to make a purchase with fake money.

1:36 p.m. A stolen vehicle was recovered on Ash Loop.

1:36 p.m. A pickup truck was parked in the fire zone at Walmart and the driver refused to move.

1:38 p.m. A caller wants to file a complaint with the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office because on three occasions, he’s been attacked by a vicious dog while walking his dog in Los Ojos.

1:49 p.m. A Walmart caller said a woman is passed out under a tree, with a bottle of vodka in her hand.

2:15 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a drunk man is near the trees and refusing to leave.

3:32 p.m. A Family Dollar caller said a man in a vehicle is slumped over in the driver seat.

4:29 p.m. An Allsups caller wants a man removed from the property.

6:32 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller said a man went up to him, asking for drugs.

8:09 a.m. A Burger King caller reported two young ladies are screaming at employees and trying to assault them.

8:12 p.m. A fire was reported on County Road 402 and 401 in Lindrith.

8:21 p.m. A 60-year-old woman overdosed on South Riverside Drive.

9:21 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man walking in the middle of the road near Burger King, who seems to be trying to get run over.

10:08 p.m. An Allsups caller said two women are on the side of the building and are loitering and they want them removed.

10:16 p.m. A truck flipped over on Fairview Lane and North McCurdy Road.

Stop laughing

Aug. 16

12:17 a.m. An Española Hospital caller said a parent is trying to leave with a child but does not have permission to do so.

1:59 a.m. An East Chamisa Street caller reported hearing two shots fired by the Inn at the Delta.

6:15 a.m. An Allsups caller said a man is walking around with a machete.

6:43 a.m. A caller reported a lot of smoke coming from the bosque.

7:03 a.m. A Po Pay Avenue caller said her son-in-law broke her car window and stole a compressor and handgun.

9:18 a.m. A County Road 101 in Chimayó caller reported hearing nine shots.

9:36 a.m. A caller said a woman is walking with five dogs, which got loose and began attacking a homeless man who is now bleeding from the arm.

11:56 a.m. A Del Norte Credit Union caller reported hearing a gunshot and saw a car speed off. It was discovered a man had been shot.

12:30 p.m. A car that appeared to have been stashed or wrecked was found on County Road 136 in Hernandez.

2:07 p.m. A pickup truck on County Road 56A in Chamita was discovered to have been stripped.

2:27 p.m. An officer went to the Santa Claran Gas Station to help a man in a power wheelchair who got stuck.

3:58 p.m. A vehicle was discovered off the road and in the bushes on County Road 136 in Hernandez.

4:31 p.m. A County Road 10 in Española caller wants to speak with a deputy about someone opening credit cards in her name.

5:03 p.m. A Del Norte Credit Union caller said someone in the drive-thru is trying to cash fraudulent checks.

5:56 p.m. A fire was reported on County Road 326 in Tierra Amarilla.

6:33 p.m. A Western Winds Motel caller said two men are on the property and being a nuisance because they are laughing.

6:59 p.m. A Santo Niño Lane caller reported a 58-year-old man is unconscious and not breathing.

7 p.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller said a man is walking near Dan’s Liquors and almost got hit.

8:14 p.m. A Valdez Park caller reported a woman is beating up another woman.

8:24 p.m. A fire was reported in Lindrith.

8:50 p.m. A Ojo Caliente caller said the neighbors are shooting big fireworks and they’re scared a fire will start because everyone has propane tanks and the weeds are dry.

9 p.m. A caller reported people are throwing a party at the Santa Cruz Country Store and saying stuff about selling drugs.

9:13 p.m. A Walmart caller said someone is shooting off fireworks in the parking lot.

11 p.m. A caller reported a man is wearing nothing but boxers and is running around the road, yelling and screaming near City Hall.

11:22 p.m. A South Monterey Lane caller said a woman walked up to his house covered in blood and said her girlfriend is trying to kill her.

11:31 p.m. A Motel 6 caller reported someone is trying to break in at the front desk. The attempted burglar threw a chair at the caller.

Left for a prostitute

Aug. 17

12:52 a.m. A Calle Don Alfredo caller said their son is outside, cussing and yelling at the neighbor.

1:35 a.m. A caller reported there’s drug activity and prostitutes near the Goodwill store and her boyfriend left her for one.

4:02 a.m. A Rio del Oso Street in Chama caller thinks her 33-year-old son is overdosing because he does meth and blues.

4:24 a.m. An ATM at Century Bank was broken into.

10:56 a.m. A caller reported a man with a knife is dancing on the side of the road near the Chimayó Trading Post.

11:42 a.m. A caller said her son is on probation or parole and is drunk and walking toward the Oñate Bridge.

12:18 p.m. A Rue 21 caller wants all the homeless that hang out to be dispersed.

1:21 p.m. A JoJi’s caller said they are getting complaints from customers about several people who are hanging out and shooting up behind Taco Bell and Pet Sense.

2:01 p.m. An East Roman Drive caller reported her roommate broke into her room and stole her bank card and cash.

2:27 p.m. A Desert Sun Motors caller said a man who appears to be under the influence is refusing to leave.

2:37 p.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man wearing only boxers has trash thrown all around by the baseball field bleachers.

2:45 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s “being weird” at Lucero Center.

4:14 p.m. A Walmart caller said her purse was stolen from inside the store.

4:15 p.m. An Oliver’s General Store caller reported a vehicle has been there for three days.

4:31 p.m. A caller said a drunk man left the probation office and she can’t find him. He’s been missing for five hours.

4:35 p.m. A North McCurdy Road caller reported a vehicle crashed into a gas line by his house, then fled and now gas is leaking from the meter.

4:46 p.m. A hit-and-run was reported by Domino’s Pizza.

4:55 p.m. A 30-year-old man was exposed to fentanyl smoke at the Santa Claran Casino Hotel and now has a headache and is having trouble breathing.

5:08 p.m. A Lovin’ Oven caller said a man on a pedal bike pulled a knife on her.

5:23 p.m. A 35-year-old woman was reported to be overdosing at the Days Inn.

6:44 p.m. A CVS caller said four people are smoking fentanyl by the doors.

6:59 p.m. A Daniel Road in Chama caller reported hearing a shot in the motel area.

7:10 p.mm. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who looks drugged out by the ditch on Private Drive 1130 and State Road 399.

8:09 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying near the trash can between Wendy’s and the gas station.

10:25 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man is outside smoking something in a foil.

10:50 p.m. A Calle Talache caller reported people have pitched tents in the bushes.

Slugfest at Chili’s

Aug. 18

12:25 a.m. A Camino Arbolera caller said they heard and saw a man who was yelling and arguing with someone, cock a gun.

8:30 a.m. An Allsups caller reported someone in an SUV at a gas pump is passed out and looks dead. The caller also said a man is asking for money.

9:27 a.m. A Mesa Prieta Road in Coyote caller went to check on the neighbor and found him dead.

10:03 a.m. A caller reported there’s a loud boombox “going off” in the barbershop’s parking lot.

1:47 p.m. A caller said a pickup truck has been parked at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayó for a couple weeks and they want a deputy to check it out.

2:24 p.m. A caller reported someone dropped a wallet near Subway and a woman picked it up and walked off with it.

5:57 p.m. A Red Clay Road in Santa Clara caller said a 22-year-old woman is having suicidal ideations.

6:17 p.m. A Pizza Hut caller reported a man is running in and out of traffic.

6:51 p.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller said a man and woman were physically fighting.

7:41 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a man is drunk and refusing to leave.

7:49 p.m. A County Road 56 in Chamita caller said the neighbors are conducting a burn in their yard.

7:53 p.m. Multiple calls were received from Calle Algodones, for noise complaints.

8:44 p.m. A Burger King caller said a woman in her underwear is walking around and sitting in the play area.

9:18 p.m. A Chili’s caller reported an employee slugged another employee.

10:26 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man came up to her son and punched him.

11:49 p.m. A West Winesap caller reported her mother is drunk and yelling and throwing things.

Choked with a hose

Aug. 19

12:18 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller wants some teenagers dispersed because they’re running around the parking lot in shopping carts.

12:35 a.m. Two shots were heard in the Po Pay Avenue area.

1:18 a.m. A Jemez View Street caller reported a man is staring at and pointing at him and is hiding in the ditch after looking in people’s yards.

1:48 a.m. A Santa Clara Drive caller heard one or two gunshots, then heard women screaming shortly thereafter.

2:47 a.m. A Calle del Rio caller reported their house windows are smashed in and a few things were taken.

7:48 a.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller said a man is yelling at someone in the area.

8:18 a.m. A Walmart caller reported a man is passed out in a vehicle and has needles on the seat.

8:21 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller reported the back window on his vehicle is broken out.

9:28 a.m. A County Road 18 in Española caller said she needs her 20-year-old son removed because he’s breaking her stuff and pushing her.

9:52 a.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller reported her son has been combative and has been hurting himself.

11:05 a.m. A Walmart caller said a customer brought in a bag yesterday and since no one claimed it, they opened it and found an ID and drug paraphernalia inside.

11:29 a.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller reported a 75-year-old woman died.

11:35 a.m. An officer caught a man stealing copper from an abandoned building near the tribal lakes on North Riverside Drive.

12:09 p.m A caller wants the transients dispersed from the area and for their tents to be taken away.

2:46 p.m. A Po Pay Avenue caller said tools, change and a wallet were taken from her son’s vehicle.

3:17 p.m. A caller reported seeing a man who’s possibly intoxicated, on the road near Abiquiú Elementary.

3:21 p.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller said there’s been fraudulent charges to their EBT card and wants to speak with an officer.

3:33 p.m. A County Road 2 caller reported fraudulent activity on her bank account and wants to file a report.

3:42 p.m. A Po Pay Avenue caller said a woman was bitten by a dog.

4:40 p.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller reported she’s missing money from her EBT card.

5:25 p.m. An Española Hospital caller requested assistance in restraining a 49-year-old man who is in an altered mental status.

7:28 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller reported the death of his father, who was on hospice.

7:44 p.m. An Alcalde caller said her daughter attacked her and so she tried to choke the daughter with a garden hose.

8:06 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported a man in a truck with a washer and dryer in the back pulled a Glock on him.

8:15 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller said a man came through their yard, asking for a ride.

9:30 p.m. A drunk man in the Allsups parking lot is requesting an ambulance.

9:56 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller wants guidance because a girl is harassing his daughter by sending emails and text messages. They blocked her and changed their numbers, but the girl won’t stop.

11:31 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said a man is beating up his girlfriend and they can hear her screaming.

11:06 p.m. A Lumberton caller reported the Jicarilla Police Department won’t respond to his calls even though he’s barely off the reservation. He needs to speak with someone because he’s being threatened.

‘Physical dispute

Aug. 20

1:41 a.m. A Lumberton caller said a 54-year-old man is sitting there with a hatchet and involved with drugs and owes someone money.

6:16 a.m. A Velarde caller reported there is a clone in his ear and glasses fell out of the clone’s ear and they read, “pro terrorist.”

8:30 a.m. A Best Daze caller said there are two homeless people covered in blankets and passed out in front of the doors with tin foil surrounding them.

9:06 a.m. A Lybrook caller reported a break-in but said nothing was taken. However, it seems like someone was sleeping in the Turtle Mountain Baptist Church.

11:09 a.m. A Velarde caller said she was parked in the middle of the road and was hit by a vehicle that fled.

11:18 a.m. A Walmart caller reported a person in an SUV is selling dogs.

11:37 a.m. An Allsups caller said a woman has been there for the past two hours and refuses to leave.

11:40 a.m. A Grove Avenue in Chama caller reported her neighbors are doing an illegal burn.

11:48 a.m A Private Drive 1015A in Alcalde caller said a man is calling the FBI, saying his wife or girlfriend committed a murder five years ago and now he’s being followed and threatened because he knows about the murder.

11:52 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller reported the neighbor’s dog bit her daughter.

12:41 p.m. A Murphy’s Express caller said a group of four people were having a “physical dispute.”

12:45 p.m. A Champion Car wash caller reported his 2-year-old child locked him and his other child out of his truck.

12:58 p.m. A Calle Rivera caller said a man was inside the building, getting water, then started jumping into people’s backyards.

1:19 p.m. A Rock Christian Outreach caller reported a man is unconscious and his legs are twisted in a weird way. He’s known to use fentanyl and Narcan was administered, then he was transported to the emergency room.

1:38 p.m. A Community School Road caller said the neighbor is raking dog feces out into the street and it’s upsetting the caller.

2:10 p.m. A Wendy’s caller reported a physical fight between six people.

2:24 p.m. A Carr Lane caller wants homeless people chased from the area because they are walking up and down the road near the Dollar Tree.

2:57 p.m. An Alcalde caller said a man and woman are running after her and they have sexually assaulted her in the past and they’re after her again.

3:23 p.m. A caller reported being stuck on Abiquiú Lake in a boat that ran out of gas.

3:51 p.m. An Abiquiú caller said three men are fighting on Private Drive 1632.

5:43 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man near Speedway who’s unable to walk straight.

5:59 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported an ATV flipped and a man might have a broken arm, while a woman might have a broken ankle.

6 p.m. A Starbucks caller said a man is nodding out in front of the business.

6:49 p.m. A caller reported getting a call from his son, who said he’d been shot and is at the hospital.

7:29 p.m. A caller said there’s a bunch of shattered glass on the road near the Oñate bridge.

7:35 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller reported a man who seems out of it, has his pants down around his ankles and is walking up to people’s cars. The caller said he is now rolling around on the ground.

8:14 p.m. An East Roman Drive caller said a friend left a bunch of fentanyl pills in the bathroom, as well as tin foil and he wants them removed.

8:15 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man is getting aggressive with customers and is walking around with a bucket and a hatchet in it.

9:21 p.m. A Dixon caller said someone is lighting fireworks.

9:33 p.m. A Santa Clara Casino caller reported a fire is being started behind the old smoke shop.

9:35 p.m. A Hernandez caller said her dog was stolen and has the incident on camera.

10:48 p.m. A woman reported she’s inside Walgreens and has a knot on her head and is trying to get away from someone.
